Overview

The Battery Training Grant helps Australian businesses train their existing workforce to build battery manufacturing and handling capability, and to improve the safe handling of battery systems.

Part of the Battery Workforce Skills and Training (BWST) program — the Training stream of the Australian Government's $20 million Building Future Batteries Capability program, delivered by Powering Australia over 2025–28 under the National Battery Strategy. Grants of up to $30,000 (excl. GST) cover up to 50% of eligible course fees and materials; a matching 50% cash contribution is required. The total grants pool is approximately $800,000 to 2027.

Who can apply

To be eligible, your business or organisation must meet all of the following.

Registered in Australia with an active Australian ABN.

Employs staff with Australian working rights working in a segment of the battery value chain.

Proposes battery-related training that will demonstrably advance the BWST program objectives.

Uses an approved training Provider, or delivers a formal internal program not otherwise available.

How applications are assessed

Applications are assessed on merit against five published criteria and a merit threshold, and awarded to eligible applications subject to available funds.

The application process

ApplySubmit one application form addressing the eligibility and assessment criteria.

Eligibility checkWe validate your identity and eligibility and confirm your Provider is approved or approvable.

Merit assessmentAt least two independent reviewers assess and recommend.

DecisionThe Chief Operating Officer approves the award. You are notified and may appeal to the CEO.

Grant agreementWe finalise a Training Grant Agreement between you and Powering Australia.

Deliver & reportWe pay on evidence of incurred expenditure; you report Participant completions and we evaluate the program.
